Hi David, we like to post about interesting concepts in UI design, and often discuss some of our own ideas in this area. If it was not worth posting about, then I don't think we would have received any comments about it in the first place.

i agree, this is nothing to blog about, or at least it shouldn't be considered "ingenious." it looks annoying and complicated to me. like someone else posted here, i use the scrollwheel anyway.

I think that this is a great concept but doesn't really matter because most people use the mousewheel or trackpad to scroll.

Ok.. I'm understanding it more now, and you're right. It is a step forward in browser GUI. I suppose (for me anyhow) the old design is just so hard to break away from seeing as how it's what I'm used to. Secondly, I tend not to used the arrows anyhow. If I want to scroll multiple pages, I just grab the bar and move it; to move a few lines I just use my wheel. Though I know not everybody does this.. or has the option of a click wheel.

I guess we'll just have to see where this goes. Certainly an interesting development.

It's clever because instead of having the arrows at the top and bottom of the scroll bar, they follow the bar itself. This also means that the size of the bar can be reduced to as little as 1 pixel in height for a more accurate display of the relative height of a page.

Sure, it's not mind blowing, but it is definitely a more flexible, easy way to scroll a page, evolving current methods.

Perhaps it's just me, but I'm not seeing what's so wonderful about this. Sure, the arrows don't show until you float over the scrollbar area. But you still have the scrollbar itself, and all the area allotted to it. What's the point in taking away the arrows until you hover if everything else is still there?
