The Memory Stick

Ok, now we've had our fair share of novelty memory sticks in the past, from sushi to, well, pretty much anything else you can think of. On the other hand, we have never seen one that cares so much for the environment as the Oooms Wooden Memory Stick, made entirely of wood. Obviously, there is some circuitry in there somewhere, but it's not visible. This lovely piece of stick then gets a usb connector shoved in the end, and becomes a piece of reliable technology. Deserves it right for just lying there doing nothing.
Will we be seeing any similarly themed pieces soon?

Most popular video controls

Here are some popular video controllers for some popular video sites on the net.

aol's offering: too much wasted space, and too much colour.

aol video

Blip tv: An attractive control- simple, maybe too simple?

Blip tv

Google video: Probably our favourite- simple, with advanced options, nice big play button, soft to look at. Well done Google.
Google video

Imeem: Very simple, very sexy, and semi transparency is a great idea.
imeem

Yahoo video: Incorporates Yahoo's trademark purple colour-scheme, and essential controls. A good controller from Yahoo.

That's our opinion, what's yours? Think you've found a better controller than any of these? Leave us a comment.

Gambling to the power of three

Sigapore Casino to the power of 3
Three 50-storey towers in Singapore make up the all new casino complex. Shopping centres, a hotel, and casinos for US gaming company Las Vegas Sands form the new development by architect Moshe Safdie. Above all, though, is the Sky Park, a 2 acre public space with landscaped gardens, jogging routes, and a swimming pool. The best bit is that this public space rests on top of the 3 towers: genius!

Should be opening their doors by 2009.

The Ultimate Phone

Go Squared Phone
Look at the phones on the market today. They [almost] all suck. Even the best ones aren't perfect. The Moto RAZR was, and still is a sexy phone, but the interface is horrific. The Sony Ericsson K800i is also a good looking phone, and has great features to match, but it still doesn't stand out much more than anything else.

The world is long overdue "THE phone", and something tells us it might come from Apple. We have had a good long think about what THE phone might look like, and here's what we came up with.

Well, there you go. In all its touch screen scroll wheel goodness. If Apple do make a phone, and they want it to be the best, why not incorporate the best iPod in the world...

Movies, Photos, Internet, all in H.264 glory on that wonderful full face display.

Not to forget PhotoBooth Express, the on-the-go camera effects application to express yourself.

Better not go on for too long otherwise we'll end up sounding like Steve Jobs at a keynote...

We can dream.

One more thing, click here for a high quality version.

The other iTunes 7 interface [edit]

It seems Apple have made a little accident. On browsing their iTunes and iPod support pages, a screenshot shows the source list to be an attractive dark blue, with white text on top.

iTunes was updated on Tuesday 12th September to version 7. The update looses the "aqua" look many had grown used to, in favour of a darker blue and more dark grey. Opinions of the updated interface are mixed, but personally, I quite like it. To be honest, at first I hated it, but it's been growing on me. The latest version certainly seems more complete than ever before and introduced some much overdue features such as the ability to get album cover art for you.

What's your opinion on the new iTunes? A beautiful update, or a step back in design?

Edit: Apple have now changed the screenshot to the REAL iTunes 7 interface. I bet someone wasn't too happy...

Get a new look for Windows XP

As you probably know, there are a variety of skins out there for Windows XP. Some are free, most are not (as usual with most things). We at Liquidicity have come accross an attractive skin, named "Vista Inspirat". Found on CrystalXP.net, this Brico Pack comes in installer form, and once installed and upon reboot your computer pulls on a nice new Windows Vista- style skin. It comes with some extra 3rd party software bundled to enhance the experience. If you wish to try it out, here is the link to their Brico pack page, where the Vista Inspirat skin is among other downloadable packs:

I also have the skin for myself, and I've included a screenshot from my desktop for you (background thanks to 365wallpapers!)

As for the widgets you see, they are from Yahoo's widget engine. Extremely useful little gadgets!

Study the PS3 [which won't be out in Europe 'till March]

Sony want you to learn about the Playstation 3, that's why they've just set up a new minisite that tells you all about the console, the controller, its' games, and a lot of other stuff.
Check out the minisite now for some of the action here.
Oh yes, and if you happen to be in Europe [like us] then you'll be saddened/annoyed/suicidal to hear that the next generation console won't be available until March 2007.
Looks like a few Christmas lists are about to be ripped up...

September 12th: Showtime for Apple again.

So another month, another Apple keynote.

What should we expect this time? Well, looking at the rumours swarming around, it seems there will finally be some changes to the look of Apple's already wonderful hardware. Many are expecting a new MacBook Pro, and seeing as it was brought out in January on Intel [despite having an almost identical shell to the old Powerbook] we could well be seeing this soon.

The iMac could also be in for a change in design, but more notably, a 23 inch model sounds as though it is in the works. To be honest, if the iMac design were to stay the same, I would quite like to see the addition of a black model. If you look at the current Apple hardware line up: black or white MacBooks, black or white iPod [nano]s, surely a black or white iMac shortly?

Will we finally see the long awaited iPod with touch screen click wheel? Only time will tell, but one source in China has seen large numbers of large trucks leaving one of the huge Apple factories where iPods are made. Who knows? Steve might have a clue on that one.

On the software side of things, there isn't much rumoured from Apple, other than a new Final Cut Studio, but that is more likely at the NAB event later this year.

On the other hand, we might see some previews of more Universal Applications. Of note, Adobe are rumoured to be showing a demo of some apps. Hopefully we might see some of CS3's new features, but the previews will more likely be "it's quick, real quick".

So, that's a round of what we might be seeing next week.

Rumours. That's all they are.
