New in LiveStats 3 – Exclude visitor activity from Trends

LiveStats 3 - now with the ability to block your own visits from showing in Trends

The last 2 weeks have been very exciting for GoSquared. The hugely successful launch of LiveStats 3 on 11th January led to some fantastic reviews from some of the largest blogs on the web including TechCrunch and The Next Web.

Blocking your own Visits from showing in Trends

Being a dedicated web developer is a mixed blessing. It can mean disproportionate amounts of time spent getting increasingly annoyed at hacking around pesky browser nuances. It can mean feeling liberated at completing that silky smooth HTML 5 / CSS3 experiment. But it can also mean that you pollute your own website traffic reports by your obsessive page refreshes.

Fortunately, we can help with that problem.

Today we’re releasing the ability to exclude a visitor’s activity from being recorded in your Trends reports. In the LiveStats interface, you can now select the “Ignore Visitor” link in the visitor details pane to achieve this. When selected, none of that visitor’s activity (such as pageviews, unique counts etc) will be recorded in Trends. The visitor will continue to be displayed in LiveStats as normal.

This features is particularly useful if you’d like to exclude yourself or members of your team from racking up your pageview counts and otherwise affecting your traffic reports.

Quick Tip

If you have a user system or something similar, you can selectively track (or exclude from your stats) your anonymous, member, admin or whatever class of visitor to your site, by creating rules that control when the tracking code is embedded in the page. For example, if you only want to track your signed in members, get your developer to write a script that ensures the GSTC (GoSquared Tracking Code) is only included on pages loaded by members who are signed in. This means that only pageviews made by your members will be tracked by GoSquared. Also note, that this functionality is easy to enable when using GoSquared with services such as WordPress by using the GoSquared WordPress Plugin and Joomla! with the GoSquared Joomla! Plugin.

Introducing LiveStats 3

Today, we’re very excited to announce the latest version of GoSquared LiveStats – version 3.

We’ve rewritten LiveStats from the ground up to focus around seeing which content is popular on your site at a glance. The centre of the interface shows a list of all the pages people are viewing on your site. The left side shows where your traffic is coming from – what people are tweeting, which sites are linking to you, and what people are searching for.

GoSquared now available on the Google Chrome Web Store

A lot of the talk today may be about the Apple Mac App Store, but we want to bring your attention to something you’ve already got access to – whether you’re on WIndows or Mac. The Google Chrome Web Store enables you to choose from hundreds (if not thousands) of web applications to install on your Chrome browser.

What’s the benefit of installing a Chrome web app? Web apps on Chrome can make use of many offline features such as local storage. You can also set preferences customised to each web app – like trusting certain applications with your location information. When you install a web application in Chrome, its icon will show on the home screen so you can jump straight to it in seconds.

The GoSquared web app for Google Chrome is the same suite of tools that you know and love – GoSquared LiveStats, Trends, and Settings – bundled together in one easy to reach super-bookmark, accessible from your Chrome home screen.

It’s completely free, so go download the GoSquared Chrome web app now.
