Using LiveStats

What are the coloured dots on the right in LiveStats List View?

The dots on the right show you how many pages each visitor on your website has been on. The more dots the more pages the user has visited in that session. The dot furthest to the right represents the most recent page the visitor has seen. The lighter dot the, the longer the visitor has been on that page. You can hover over any dot to see the page name and url of that page. Dots that are coloured (red, orange, or green) are active - the user currently has them open in their browser.

How can I find my Tracking Code?

Go to the Site Manager, select your website from the list of websites on the left, and click the "Tracking Code" tab. Highlight your GSTC, copy it, and then you can paste it into your site's HTML, just before the closing "body" tag.

Can I label a visitor (such as myself) so I can identify them when they return?

Every visitor to your website is given a unique ID within LiveStats. You can change this number by simply clicking the number and typing in a name, and then hitting enter. If you have a user system on your site, learn about how you can integrate LiveStats so that usernames automatically show up against users who are signed in on your site.

Is there a faster way to switch between multiple websites in LiveStats?

Click the "LiveStats" logo at the top left of the screen to bring up the Site Switcher.

How do I view a visitor's location on the Map?

Expand the visitor's row, and click "Show on Map". This will swipe the List View out of the way, and bring across the world map with the selected visitor highlighted as a blue dot.

Why do so many visitors seem to come from "Direct" sources?

Many visitors from sites such as Twitter and Facebook, and from email messages may show as "Direct" referrals. This is because these sites are often used through applications on the desktop or mobile devices. For example, a visitor tapping a link to your site in the "Twitter for iPhone" app will show as a "Direct" referral because the link will open a new browser window and load your site - which is different from having "Twitter.com" open in a browser window and clicking a link directly to your site.

Also, some sites purposely mask their referring URL by sending visitors to a redirecting page before landing on your website - unfortunately there's not much that we (or anyone else) can do to track such referrers.
