At GoSquared, our goal is to build the best software in the world to help businesses grow.
That means understanding, designing, and developing software that works for as many people as possible.
We can’t be “the best” at anything without being a diverse team, and without being open to views from all backgrounds.
We know we can do better, so we’re making some changes today, and many more in the future.
Education within the team
Here are a few things we’re doing to educate ourselves better:
- We’ve run a Lunch & Learn on Black Lives Matter this week.
- We’re adding an internal resource so anyone on the team at any time can find recommended books, articles, and more to educate themselves further on the topic.
- We’re covering the cost of any books and further reading on the subject.
We’re addressing our hiring process to ensure we include candidates from sources that celebrate diversity, like People of Colour in Tech (POCIT), and ensuring our job descriptions and selection criteria are as free as possible from unconscious bias.
We’re determined to ensure the GoSquared team becomes increasingly diverse at all levels of the company.
Encouraging more people to code
Several members of the GoSquared team are with us because they took coding courses and built their technical knowledge though educational programs. We want to see more people from all backgrounds build the technical skills to become an engineer, and we can help.
We are committing to sponsoring two people from communities of colour to go through a coding course. We are still finalising the details, but please get in touch with us at email@example.com to learn more as soon as we have more to share.
“What gets measured gets improved.”
Every week we send a newsletter out to tens of thousands of people with the latest and greatest content on how to grow your business online.
We will be more conscious of who has written each piece, and what businesses they are from. We are adding another metric to our reporting to ensure we are sharing content from more diverse sources and backgrounds.
We will be featuring more of our customers from more diverse backgrounds in our marketing to support and showcase their great businesses.
We’ve made a donation to We Belong – a local charity working to improve the opportunities for young migrants in the UK.
We’re also implementing a donation matching scheme to match donations from our team.
We know we’re at the start of a journey, so these changes are just the beginning. Thank you to everyone who is helping us learn and improve.
