{"id":377,"date":"2008-06-06T01:00:57","date_gmt":"2008-06-06T01:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gosquared.com\/liquidicity\/?p=377"},"modified":"2019-11-28T13:33:42","modified_gmt":"2019-11-28T13:33:42","slug":"first-photos-of-banners-from-wwdc-08","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gosquared.com\/blog\/first-photos-of-banners-from-wwdc-08","title":{"rendered":"First Photos of Banners from WWDC &#8217;08"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/flickr.com\/photos\/gernot\/2554181096\/in\/photostream\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.gosquared.com\/images\/liquidicity\/08_06_06_lq_wwdc_first_banners.jpg\" alt=\"First Banners from WWDC 08\" title=\"lq_wwdc_first_banners\" width=\"790\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Good work <a href=\"http:\/\/flickr.com\/photos\/gernot\/2554181096\/in\/photostream\">Gernot Poetsch<\/a> on snapping the first shots of the Moscone West building in San Francisco where the WWDC keynote will take place on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Every year, these banners leave a few hints as to what will be revealed on the big day, and this year is no exception.<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned in our earlier article &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gosquared.com\/liquidicity\/archives\/360\">Thoughts on WWDC<\/a>&#8220;, the focus on OS X as much as iPhone here seems to suggest we will be seeing something about the next version of Apple&#8217;s desktop operating system.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, this is the first time we have seen Apple marketing their operating system without the term &#8220;Mac&#8221;. Some people have noted this down as possibly meaning OS X could become available on PCs, but I sincerely doubt that. Instead, I see it as Apple strengthening the definition of each of their brands, so that they fall into the following categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mac<\/strong>: The computer hardware (Desktop and Notebook)<\/li>\n<li><strong>iPhone<\/strong>: The mobile hardware (Perhaps a range of iPhones, gradually replacing the iPod)<\/li>\n<li><strong>OS X<\/strong>: The firmware (One operating system that developers can build for using the same tools and services, while making it even easier for consumers to move from iPod > iPhone > Mac)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is also interesting to see Apple reviving the idea of OS X on the iPhone, as until now it had seemed Apple had been making the firmware update seem more like the &#8220;iPhone OS&#8221; as opposed to a mobile version of the desktop operating system.<\/p>\n<p>Another interesting little piece of information: <a href=\"http:\/\/valleywag.com\/5013603\/mystery-apple-boxes-overflow-at-quanta-shipping-facility\">Mystery unmarked boxes similar size to iMac boxes overflowing at Quanta shipping facility<\/a>.
