\"GoSquared<\/p>\n

We’ve been working with Blockspring<\/a> to bring the power of the GoSquared API<\/a> to Google Sheets. You can now grab data from the GoSquared API (along with hundreds of other services, like MailChimp, Slack and Twitter) in Google Sheets through Blockspring.<\/p>\n

Why would I want to use the GoSquared API with Google Sheets?<\/h2>\n

As you know, Google Sheets is a hugely versatile tool, and it’s where a lot of data ends up getting piped to for people to analyse and share with their coworkers.<\/p>\n

We try to avoid spreadsheets whenever possible, but we have a Google Sheet shared with our investors that we keep updated with our high level key metrics, and the new Blockspring integration is making our lives easier.<\/p>\n

At GoSquared, we use a custom version of Christoph Janz’s SaaS metrics template<\/a> to report our key numbers with our investors. We automatically populate the sheet using the GoSquared API for key numbers like the total number of visitors to our marketing site.<\/p>\n

It took one of our engineers a few hours to build a service to send our API data into the Google Sheet \u2013 a few hours he could have been working on building features for our customers.<\/p>\n

Now, thanks to Blockspring, you can send your data from GoSquared into a Google Sheet in a couple of clicks without ever needing to bug one of your developers even for a second. We think that’s pretty neat, and our developers think it’s even neater.<\/p>\n

What is Blockspring?<\/h2>\n

“Blockspring is the world’s library of functions, accessible from everywhere you do work”.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Essentially, Blockspring makes it easy to bring data from external APIs into one place \u2013 Google Sheets.<\/p>\n

We think this is great for the thousands of customers who want to get more power out of GoSquared, but don’t have the time to use or learn the GoSquared API<\/a>.<\/p>\n

How does GoSquared and Blockspring integration work?<\/h2>\n

\"GoSquared<\/p>\n

Here’s what you need to do:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Open a Google Spreadsheet document and navigate to the “Add-ons” menu > Get Add-ons > search for “blockspring” add!<\/li>\n
  2. Then you’ll need to signup to Blockspring and log-in through the app.<\/li>\n
  3. Once you’re set up simply type in the panel on the right hand side: “Get Historical Traffic with GoSquared”<\/li>\n
  4. Hit “Insert into selected Cell”<\/li>\n
  5. You’ll see that the Blockspring add-on has generated a new function in the selected cell “=BLOCKSPRING(argument1, argument2…)” and once you hit “Return” on your keyboard the formula is executed as expected. A second later: Data appears!<\/li>\n
  6. These are the default parameters that show you the data from the GoSquared API DEMO site. Obviously if you\u2019re already using GoSquared you can get your own data, by click \u201cSet Key\u201d in Google Sheets and adding your own API tokens. Try to change the date to something more old, maybe try to grab the data from June!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    So in roughly 2 minutes or less you consumed an API directly from Google Sheets without writing a single line of code (or asking a developer for help). Pretty cool, huh?<\/p>\n
