2400 Flag Icon Set
James Gill / September 16, 2010

It’s been a while since we posted some resources on the GoSquared Blog, so we thought it was time we shared something great with you.
Introducing our latest icon set – 2400 Flags. We’ve created a flag for every major country in the world, plus a few more. And we’ve created them in several sizes so they’ll look great no matter where you’re using them – 16×16, 24×24, 32×32, 48×48, and 64×64. We’ve also provided them in 2 variants – as flat and standard, and with a lovely glossy finish.

We’re using these flag icons in our own apps – sign up for a free trial of GoSquared and see for yourself. Sign up for a free trial now if you’d like to see more!
Some of our Personal Favourites

Get the download now! Donate as much as you want
We’ve organised them by country name and also by ISO-3166-1 alpha-2 country code where available, so hopefully you’ll be able to find all the flags you need, and integrate them into your next project in seconds.

Pay whatever you want
We put considerable effort into the resources we make and until now we’ve always given them away for free. This time around we’re asking anyone who actually gets some use out of these flags to pay for them, and for the time we spent creating them. We won’t set the price point, so pay whatever you like. Hate them? Don’t pay anything!
Using these Flags commercially
If you want to use these flag icons commercially (on your company’s website, in client work, in any scenario where you’ll be profiting from the work they’re in) then we kindly request that you donate at least $40 to justify the time and effort we’ve put in to creating them. It wasn’t a small job, and your money goes directly back in to creating more quality design resources.
If you need a flag that isn’t here, please drop us a line in the comments and we’ll add it as soon as we can.
We hope they’re useful for you, and that you share them with the world.
Enjoy!

Luckily the openclipart.org flag icons don't require some fee for some using flags.

I've got a list of resources I keep in mind for my own projects which I'm planning to make public and I might add this to it.
Could you please state clearly and simply what your required (not recommended) terms are? (ideally, by reference to an existing license like MIT/BSD, CC-BY-SA, etc.) I only list resources which meet the criteria for Stallman's four software freedoms (so I have various GPLed javascript modules in the list with cautionary notes, but if you've got a "no derivatives" clause or the donation for commercial use is more than just a request/recommendation, I'll just leave the "flag icons" position to FamFamFam's flag icon set)

Are these icons GPL? I work with GPL platforms and am only able to implements items released under the GPL as well.
Thank you!

As a webdesigner I need flags all the time, this looks just fine for my needs.
You suggest to donate at least $40 per client or in total?
peter said,
October 9, 2010 at 22:05 ()
I was interested in the flags but $40 donation to use them commercially, sorry won't be using them, if I used them on a project it would be 2 different flags in maybe 2 sizes, that $10 a flag. I'll commission something unique for that. Thanks but no thanks
James Gill said,
October 9, 2010 at 22:26 ()
Thanks very much for your comments and kind feedback everyone!
Jelmer - we request a donation of at least $40 for use in any commercial scenario, but if you'll be using them in multiple projects then we don't request another $40 per project. However, if you're profiting greatly from their use, we appreciate the generosity of anything over $40.
Peter - apologies, but we feel $40 is a fair price for commercial use of these icons - 2,400 matching, consistently styled flag icons is a bargain in our eyes.

Hi!
Just donated 45 $ for your lovely set of flags and missing the flag of Jerusalem.
Any chance to get this one into the set?
Best regards

We've just added a new World Map flag, and we'll put a Jerusalem flag on our to-do list.

In the flags-iso directory, the flag for the Holy See is named _vatican.png, but it should be va.png, as this is the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code for the Holy See.

Hi,
First of all, let me congratulate you for the great work. The best set of flags I've seen so far!
As your flags are named with the standards of the ISO 3166 database, I've compared it with your set, and I've noted that there are some minor countries missing (25). In fact, they are all not sovereign countries, but they all have a dedicated official entry in the ISO 3166 database. They are the following (as of Jan 2011):
BQ Bonaire, Saint Eustatius and Saba
BV Bouvet Island
CC Cocos (Keeling) Islands
CK Cook Islands
CW Curaçao
CX Christmas Island
GF French Guiana
GI Gibraltar
GP Guadeloupe
HM Heard Island and McDonald Islands
IO British Indian Ocean Territory
MF Saint Martin (French part)
MP Northern Mariana Islands
NC New Caledonia
NU Niue
PF French Polynesia
PM Saint Pierre and Miquelon
RE Réunion
SJ Svalbard and Jan Mayen
SX Sint Maarten (Dutch part)
TF French Southern Territories
TK Tokelau
UM United States Minor Outlying Islands
WF Wallis and Futuna
YT Mayotte
Also, you can rename your flag "_vatican" to "VA", as it's the official code for the "Holy See (Vatican City State)".
With those implementations, the set would be complete 100%, as it would cover all the 248 entries of the ISO 3166.
Anyway, thanks a lot for the current set, it's just wonderful.
Regards!

Wow, excellent stuff. Thanks.
Anyway, for the Indonesian flag (red/white), the red color must be larger than the white one. It's about 3/5 for the red color, and 2/5 for the white color.

Hi James! Really great flags!!!
I know it's not good web-style, but sometimes flags get used as language indicators. Maybe you could add a flag for Esperanto? (And maybe Klingon and Lojban?)
jakov said,

And here i have a question: Would it be okay to use your flags in non-commercial javascript that puts them on a non-commercial website? Would it be okay to convert them to data:uri for this purpos? I would of course encourage all users (through the forum) to donate for the flags and mention this website as well as the donation inside the script.

We bought this collection; it's fantastic! However, I noticed that three country flags have been updated since your collection was created: Libya (Aug. 2011), Myanmar (Oct. 2010), and Malawi (July 2010). We don't use these particular flags, so it's not a big deal to us, I just though I'd make you and other potential downloaders aware of it. Thanks again!!
