The EcoSend Launch on ‘ProductHunt’

Tuesday 21st March 2023 was a big day for the GoSquared team.

After months of hard-work building behind the scenes, we were finally able to announce the official launch of our latest product, EcoSend 🎉

EcoSend is the first climate-conscious email marketing platform. Built for sending sophisticated email campaigns, without costing the Earth.

We chose to announce the EcoSend launch on the ‘ProductHunt’ platform – a site well-known to us from previous product launches, such as our email carbon calculator, EcoSend Podcast, Lead Capture Forms, and many more!

The Launch

Publicly launching a new product is a mixture of art and science, and certainly one we are continuing to learn about and iterate.

For this launch we opted for a new strategy; a mixture of online and ‘offline’ Marketing to announce the launch.

On the online side, this involved:

  • Launching on ProductHunt

  • Reaching out to our client-base

  • Announcing via the company Instagram

  • Writing posts on our personal LinkedIn and Twitter pages

  • Working with a PR team for additional Media coverage

  • Posting in online communities our team frequent, such as Sustainability LinkedIn and Slack groups

On the ‘offline’ side, we launched our first ever billboard campaign across London and Edinburgh – an exciting new strategy!

After the launch, we also followed up with LinkedIn Ads to retarget and continue to promote the launch.

What We Learned

As always, public launches provide ample learnings for what to improve on next time.

We always run team retros after a launch, to cover both the successes and the lessons.

For our EcoSend launch, the highlights included:

  • A huge upsurge in traffic to the EcoSend site ✅

  • A lot of positive engagement from the teams’ posts on LinkedIn, and in community Slack channels such as ClimateAction.tech ✅

  • We secured wider media coverage, including an interview and article in Decision Marketing

After months of keeping EcoSend under wraps, it was delightful to see so many supportive comments, likes, reposts, and general enthusiasm for the product!

What we could have done better:

  • We recognised we could have done more work in the pre-launch period to cultivate interest, as we left this a little late 📌

  • We could have run both pre-launch and mid-launch offers, such as a special deal for signing up to EcoSend on Launch Day 📌

  • Our UK office hours end around 6pm, but the US market is still in full-swing at this time. This meant we missed a section of potential traffic after the end of our working day 📌

  • We could have run a conversion test on the new EcoSend site prior to Launch Day 📌

One Hundred and Twelve Trees Funded!

We made a big promise at the start of the launch that we would fund 1 tree for every ProductHunt upvote. And so, of course, we did just that!

With our partner Tree Nation we first funded one hundred and three ‘Weeping Pine’ trees in the Eden Reforestation project in Nepal.

Later on, when we realised a trickle of upvotes were still coming in post-launch, we funded a further nine ‘Nile Tulip’ trees. These were chosen to help replant the Mkussu forest in Tanzania, recently devastated by fire and logging.

This brought us to a total of one hundred and twelve trees funded! 🎉

Tree Nation sites

Having visibility on where our trees will be planted is very important to our mission. So, with our partner Tree Nation, we receive official certificates of every tree site to validate the funding.

Our Weeping Pine trees will be planted in Nepal, where the Eden Reforestation project works with both native reforestation species and agroforestry species to support local communities. These projects offer the local populace a range of benefits, including income for food, clothing, house maintenance, medical treatments, school fees, water pumps and cooking stoves.

Our Nile Tulip trees will be planted in the Lushoto district in Tanzania, aiding the recovery of the Mkussu. This area has been badly damaged by local economic activities such as charcoal-making and clearing for fuel wood.

The GoSquared Forest

We’re delighted to contribute the newly funded 112 trees to our GoSquared Forest, which now expands across the world from Australia to Tanzania. Each project chooses trees required by the local environment, to rebuild local ecosystems, increase biodiversity, and support local communities.

A big thank you again to everyone who supported the EcoSend Launch Day with your upvotes, and for helping us to grow our forest! 🙌
