VI (Linux Terminal) Help Sheet
Geoff Wagstaff / May 3, 2010
We’re really pleased to bring you another Help Sheet. Introducing the VI Help Sheet for all you Linux loving developers out there.
It’s been a while since we released our set of web development Help Sheets for PHP, HTML and CSS, so we thought it was time to release another. This one should keep a lot of developers happily coding away into the early hours of the morning.
So what are you waiting for? Download it. Print it. Stick it on the wall and get commanding.
As always, if you find any errors or typos or anything like that, please drop us a note in the comments.

Update: Many thanks to Adit Gupta of www.what-a-geek.com for suggesting some more useful commands and for Joe on Smashing Magazine for making a correction to one of the search commands. Thanks also to Oliver in the comments below for informing us of a few other corrections.

the command ":r appears thrice on the sheet, once under the "inserting text" section, what it does, and twice under "deleting text".
now the good news : very nice sheet, visually and conceptually !

Hi Oliver - woops! Thanks for spotting that, I think we looked at it for so long we must have glossed over that glaring mistake. We'll update the files shortly.

Hey,
this is cool, have you ever thought about setting this up as a wallpaper (1280x1024 etc.)? So no one has to fiddle around with the paper on the desk and the cheat sheet is always available...

Hi Heinz, we haven't made a wallpaper (yet), but if that's something a lot of people would be interested in then I'm sure we could put it together.
Thanks for your feedback!

Guys,
Sheet looks great, tried to download it and kept getting an adobe acrobat error: "Cannot extract the embedded font 'CCLTNC+MyriadPro-Semibold'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."
Google yielded no results on this message, anyone have any ideas?

Hi Don, thanks for stopping by - glad to hear you like the Help Sheet :D
I believe that error is showing because you don't have Myriad Pro Semibold installed on your machine. This is odd, though, because I compressed text for correct display. I can upload another version in Helvetica if you would like?

I think you should bring back "panic over" in the title but vary your preposition to make it more interesting.

Hi Ben, I like that idea! Not sure why we didn't use "Panic Over" in the title, but we'll make sure it's in there next time. Thanks :D

James,
I do not have Myriad Semibold loaded on my machine.
Please do upload the helvetica variant.
Cheers,
Don

Hi Don,
Sure thing, we'll upload shortly.
Thanks.

I've changed the export settings for the PDF. If it's still playing up for anyone without Myriad Pro installed then I sincerely apologise.

VI, CSS2 and CSS3 Help Sheets have now been updated so that all text is outlined - the sheets should be readable on all devices regardless of what fonts are installed now.
Thanks for your patience!
