Apple Launches iPhone Dev Center. Minus Domain.

iPhone Dev Center

iphonedevcenter.com

We saw earlier today that Apple had launched a useful new area of the ADC Site to help us developers make great stuff for the iPhone.

We then realised they hadn't bought the domain name iPhoneDevCenter.com, so we went ahead and bought it [as you do].

Now we're debating whether to merely sell it on, or actually do something productive with it [on top of everything else we're doing at the moment].

At the moment you'll notice that it just redirects back to this post.

What say you, loyal readers of liquidicity?

We are still looking forward to the launch of the iPhone over in the UK. Maybe then we can actually start to join in on all the iPhone craziness.

Stumble it!

Nice catch! You should really do something useful with it (or sell it to me) although sadly Australia doesn't have iPhones yet so I can't do much with it either at the moment..

On the one hand, I think "wow, you sneaky bastards. You didn't have plans to buy it... You're just holding it hostage like any other domain squatter."

And then I think "Apple... sheesh, get it to-ge-ther. Serves you right! That was some oversight there. Kinda like your lack of support for third party iPhone developers who have been trying desperately to add value to YOUR product."

So maybe you should sell it too them, but not for an outrageous amount. Then take 1/2 the $ and pass it to some indie/freeware iPhone application developer who got screwed by Apple in 1.1.1

@Jeremy ("So maybe you should sell it to them")

They'll get done for trademark infringement.

We are more than happy to sell it back to Apple, as long as we get a decent return.

I am not sure on the trademark laws when it comes to domains, but I do know that a lot of third party iPhone sites have "iPhone" in their names, and for Apple to take action against us would force them to take action against all of them as well.

Considering the strength of the iPhone community, and the positive impact it has on the iPhone as a product, I don't think Apple would risk taking action against some of their most loyal customers.

So, we'll keep hold of it until Apple offers us an iPhone or two, oh and maybe a MacBook Pro, ooooh and one of those new iMacs... ;-)

I don't know if they were planning on using iphonedevcenter.com.
They don't actually use ipod.com or mac.com, they just use those as redirecting domains to the apple website. I'm guessing that iphonedevcenter would be the redirect to here.

    The only thing you'll get is a C & D.

I'm sure the devout windows community would love to have the domain in their hands. We should also get zunephonedevcenter.com as well lol
